Big Brothers Big Sisters and Bowl for Kids' Sake recently sponsored the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce's "Round About Rutherford" event held at Smyrna Bowling Center. Representatives from businesses all across Rutherford County and surrounding areas gathered for lunch, a presentation about Big Brothers Big Sisters' Bowl for Kids' Sake event, and a fun "Round About" professional networking game.

Big Brothers Big Sisters is pleased to announce a partnership with State Farm Insurance, the State Farm Diplomats, a new and unique mentoring program created by State Farm Mid-America Zone in conjunction with Big Brothers Big Sisters to help improve high school graduation rates.
Each year, six new Diplomats sign on as long-term mentors matched with a fourth grade student, continuing the relationship through that child's high school graduation. State Farm employees are allowed two hours per month excused absence to spend time with their mentee. Each year during the program, six new Diplomats will enter into mentoring friendships with another six fourth grade students - providing a lasting and continuing legacy for the Diplomats program.
Students will additionally have the opportunity to partcipate in State Farm activities such as holiday parties, United Way and community activities, and Good Neighbor Service month projects.
Upcoming events for the Rutherford county office include an "Eggstravaganza" egg hunt, a Smyrna location for Bowl for Kids' Sake, a Belk Department Stores charity fund-raiser, and an upcoming Pool Party.
Events, other than the Belk charity sale, are open to Rutherford County mentors that participate in the community-based mentoring program. If you are interested in purchasing $5 shopping passes to the Belk Charity Day Sale, contact Echell Eady at

A special thanks to the Rutherford Education Association for selecting Big Brothers Big Sisters as the beneficiary of their annual "Trivia Night" last month. Record crowds brought in over $1,600 to help serve more Rutherford County children with a mentor.
