Up2Us is a one-to-one mentoring program that represents the partnership
between Big Brothers Big Sisters and the Boys & Girls Club.
Volunteers spend time weekly as a positive adult role model to the same
child at a Boys & Girls Club facility. Just as with any other
child visiting a neighborhood Club, the two can participate in all
types of sports, work on homework, play games, or enjoy any of the
Club’s recreational activities.
A new program for Nashville and middle Tennessee, this marriage of two
successful youth encouragement programs represents a model of youth
mentoring that encompasses the structured one-to-one Big Brothers Big
Sisters relationship while maintaining the “safe place” security for
the child by activities being held at the familiar Boys & Girls
Club location. The pilot program is serving children at the
Andrew Jackson Boys & Girls Club facility.
Boys & Girls Club’s slogan is “the positive place for kids,” and
combining this strength with Big Brothers Big Sisters motto of “Little
Moments… that create Big Magic,” has certainly proven very promising.
