Big Brothers Big Sisters creates one-to-one friendships between children who need a positive role model and caring adult volunteers. They share everyday activities - catching a first fish or reading a book all the way through - which blossom into a relationship that expands the child's horizons and helps them to make better decisions, improve their school work, and establish goals for themselves.
Becoming a Big Brother or Big Sister is easy. Just follow these easy steps:
1. Learn about Big Brothers Big Sisters.
Our staff of professionals work with you to find a program that fits you andyour needs. Feel free to ask us any questions you like to learn about our volunteer opportunities and various levels of commitment.
2. Let us learn about you.
The better we know you, the better we can match you with the right child. At the bottom of this page are two forms for you to let us know that you're interested in volunteering. Next, we will spend time getting to know you through in-person interviews. We will also complete your background and reference checks.
3. Learn about your potential Little Brother or Little Sister.
Our team will find the right match for you and a child. Once you and the child agree to the match, we will introduce you and help get the match off to a great start.
4. Learn how rewarding being a Big can be.
Big Brothers Big Sisters' staff is here to help you in your role as a mentor. Our team is there and in touch with you each month during your match to ensure your friendship is a "Big" success.
The decision to become a Big Brother or Big Sister is a significant one... the initial commitment is for one year. But we assure you this will be one of the most rewarding experiences you will ever encounter. Specific site based programs are in some cases for one school year rather than the calendar year.
